West Chester Elementary News

By: Emily Brown

After returning from the holiday break, the following boys and girls worked hard last week and were awarded rocking behavior: Lawson White, Linden Cox, Kayleigh Maness, Jordan Burleson, Tameem Al-najjar, Payton Dickerson, Grace Kelly, Adam Rowland, Jamarious Brawner, Evie Warren, Tambrei Carnell, Canaan Burleson, Marley Rushing, and Teagan White.  Congratulations, boys and girls! Also, congratulations to the Purple Panthers for winning the spirit stick this week!

Third grade is back into the swing of things after the holidays!  They are currently doing a novel study on Peter Pan and will begin working on opinion writing. It is amazing to see how each grades writing has improved from the beginning of the school year!  Mrs. Denise Davidson’s class made snow on Friday...how fun!

We are very excited about our Scholastic Book Fair that is coming up soon!  Students will be given the opportunity to make a wish list during their library time and then shop during their P.E. time.  We will also be open for business during parent-teacher conferences. We will need volunteers, so please watch for a note coming home soon about volunteering and return that if you are able to come and help us.  The dates of the Book Fair are Feb.11th-15th and the public is welcome to come and shop! Watch for notes to come home with more Book Fair information!

Reading for Education booklets were sent home last week.  All parents are asked to do is write addresses in the booklets and return them to school for a prize and a chance to win a grand prize.  This is an easy, free way for our school to earn money. The deadline is Thursday, the 17th.

Parents, please remember to write your child’s name in his/her coat!  If a coat is misplaced, it makes it very easy to locate the owner. Don’t forget to continue to save your Box Tops for Education!  Each box top equals 10 cents for our school! This is an easy way for us to earn money for our school.  Please make sure that you check the expiration date on your Box Tops and send it in on the collection sheets that will hold 50.   If you don’t have a student at West, you can still send us box tops! You can drop them off at the school office anytime or contact Mrs. Emily Brown at West and she can pick them up from you!  Please mark your calendars for these upcoming dates: NO SCHOOL-Jan.21; BOOK FAIR-Feb.11-15; PARENT-TEACHER CONFERENCES-Feb.14-15; NO SCHOOL-Feb.15 & 18
