West Chester Elementary News

By: Emily Brown

Congratulations to these boys and girls for being selected as Students of the Month for the month of September: Lily Latham, Katori Moore, Cooper Cupples, Maggie Whitehead, Braylon Johnson, Gaby Kammanee, Addie Cross, Karsyn Reynolds, Sam Alnajjar, Chelsea Mathias, Eli Massey, Nicholai Ganas, Jacob Hammond, and Bray Crouse.  They were recognized at our House Party on Friday. A big “congratulations” to Mrs. Susan Brown who was selected and recognized as West Chester Faculty/Staff Member of the Month! Mrs. Susan always goes above and beyond to help her students succeed and feel loved!

We are really enjoying mixing our kids up and getting to know each other among grades while having “House Parties.”  Students are working really hard for their house to get the most points/pom poms for behavior, attendance, etc. Congratulations to the Blue Barracudas who were first place with behavior at special classes and in the cafeteria!  Also, several students were chosen randomly for prizes for having perfect attendance the month of September. The Green Geckos gave up the spirit stick to the Black Bears on Friday for being first place overall! Who will take it away from them this week?

Please collect Box Tops for Education!  Each box top equals 10 cents for our school!  This is an easy way for us to earn money for our school.  There was a note sent home from the library, along with the collection sheet.  Anytime that you need more sheets, they are in a basket in the library or you can let your child’s teacher know.  You can also put 50 box tops in a ziploc bag. We will send off our first submission soon so please have yours in by October 19th and then keep collecting.  We would like to thank Mrs. Emily’s mother, Mrs. Janice Armour, for being an assistant coordinator for Box Tops this year!

Watch for a note coming home soon from the library regarding the Pumpkin Book Character Decorating Contest.  We’ve done this the last couple of years and it’s been a big success! Go ahead and get those creative juices flowing!  Begin thinking about who your pumpkin will be!

Our PTO membership drive is now underway!  It will run through October 4th. This year, the PTO will be providing you with an extra benefit of being a member of the PTO.  Dues this year are $5, but with that $5 comes a card with discounts all over town! You will more than get your money back if you take advantage and become a member.  Businesses included on the membership/discount card include: Jack’s, Sweetly Ever After, Dairy Queen, Green’s Garage, Snappy Tomato, and Wendy’s. Anyone can join the PTO so ask family, friends, and co-workers!  The top three students will receive a trophy, a kid’s meal, and their picture in the paper. All students who bring in at least 15 members will receive a free P.E. time. The classroom that brings in the most memberships combined will receive a pizza party.  All classrooms with 100% participation will receive a popcorn party.

   Please mark your calendar for these upcoming dates: Sept. 4 - Oct. 4 - PTO Membership Drive; Oct. 3 - Picture money due; Oct. 4 - 5 - Parent-Teacher Conferences; Oct. 5 - Lifeline Blood Drive (8 a.m. - 1 p.m.); Oct. 8-12 - Fall Break!
