Emily Brown

Welcome to the West Chester Elementary Library! My name is Emily Brown and after being in the classroom for many years, I am honored and excited to be in the library teaching all grades here at West! Besides library, I am also working in the computer lab where we work on iReady, an online diagnostic tool which assesses your child's reading and math levels and we practice keyboarding skills with the program, Keyboarding Without Tears. My mission for library, along with all the teachers here at West, is to help and encourage a love for reading! Our goal is to make lifelong readers of our students. I am here to help your child find a book that he/she is interested in. Also, besides just reading and checking out books, we also have a literacy lesson each week that goes along with a book that I read aloud. Some of the skills we are building are vocabulary, writing, reading fluently, etc. We also have an author study each month in which we learn about a particular author and the books he/she writes. Each class comes to library one time per week for a 45 minute period.

The library hosts a Book Character Pumpkin Decorating Contest in the fall and two Scholastic Book Fairs per year. Plans are underway for making a "Creation Station" in which kids can actively engage in making "things."

I actively post pictures from the library on our West Chester PTO Facebook page so you can see what we are doing in the library this year. If you ever have any questions, suggestions, or concerns, please feel free to email me!
